Obituary
Irvin S. Wells, 99, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Midland Meadows Senior Living Community, his home away from home for over two years. He was born in Huntington on April 6, 1917, to the late Ona L. (Burks) Wells and Jesse D. Wells. Irvin was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Doris E. Wells; a brother, Richard L. Wells; a sister, Alberta W. Vance and an infant brother. Irvin is survived by daughter, Barbara W. (Wayne) Norman; son, David A. (Patricia) Wells, of the Huntington area; four grandchildren, Kimberly C. and Brenton H. Barnett of the Charlotte, NC, area, Sarah W. (Tommy) Brown of Cleveland, TN, and Joel D. (Jenny) Wells of Oswego, IL, along with six great-grandchildren, Mason, Emma Kate, Joseph Brown, Hannah, Norah, and Evelyn Wells. Irvin was a graduate of Huntington High School where he participated in musical arts programs. He was a machinist for Huntington Alloys (INCO), now Special Metals Corp, retiring from there after 41 years of service. Irvin was a long-time member of Beverly Hills United Methodist Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir, taught Sunday School, participated in the United Methodist Men and in Bible study and exercise groups. He also served as dependable innovator and fixer of problems in the building. Many deep friendships resulted from his associations and work there. Irvin was devoted to family, an encourager and supporter of his children and their friends in swim team or any other activities in which they became involved. Funeral services for Irvin will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Beverly Hills United Methodist Church with Dr. Jerry Wood, officiating. Friends are invited to share a lunch with the family at 11:30 A.M. in Fellowship Hall. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M., one hour prior to services. Burial will take place at Ridgelawn Memorial Park in Huntington immediately following the service. Beard Mortuary is handling the arrangements. The family expresses appreciation to the staffs of the Meadow House of Midland Meadows Senior Living Community as well as Hospice of Huntington for their loving and compassionate care of Irvin.
