DORIS ELAINE BROWNING WELLS, 90, peacefully departed this life on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Midland Meadows Senior Living Community, her home away from home for over two years. She was born in Logan County, WV on January 8, 1926, to Essie Mae (McCallister) Browning and Robert L. Browning, Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents and by brothers William H. (Jack) and Robert L. Browning, Jr- She was the beloved wife of lrvin S. Wells for 73 years, and devoted mother to Barbara Wells Norman (Wayne) and David A. Wells (Patricia), of the Huntington area. She is survived by these and by three brothers, Donald W. and Lawrence D. Browning (Linda) of Florida, and Willard C. McCallister (Nancy) of Hillsborough, NC. Four grandchildren also survive her, Kimberly G. and Brenton H. Barnett of the Charlotte, NC area, Sarah W. Brown (Tommy) of Cleveland, TN, and Joel D. Wells (Jenny) of Oswego, lL, along with six great-grandchildren: Mason, Emma Kate, and Joseph Brown; Hannah, Norah, and Evelyn Wells. Doris was an honor roll student at Huntington East High School where she participated in the music program. She became a career homemaker and family social director, including swim team mom. She also performed some secretarial and clerical work from time to time. Doris was a long- time member of Beverly Hills United Methodist Church where she sang in the Chancel Choir, taught Sunday school, directed a children's choir, and participated in the Rachel Circle of the United Methodist Women. Many dear friendships developed from her associations and activities there. Her funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Beverly Hills United Methodist Church by Dr. Jerry Wood, pastor. Friends may visit there one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place immediately following at Ridgelawn Memorial Park in Huntington. Beard Mortuary is handling the arrangements. The family expresses appreciation to the staffs of the Meadow House of Midland Meadows Senior Living Community as well as Hospice of Huntington for their loving and compassionate care of Doris. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or Hospice of Huntington.
