Leo DeForest Schley
(December 25, 1939 - December 24,
2018)
Leo DeForest Schley, 78, of
Proctorville, Ohio, died on Monday, December 24, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical
Center as a result of injuries sustained in a fall. He was born December 25,
1939, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, son of the late Ervin and Ethel Schroeder
Schley. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Leo hired on at
INCO Alloys in 1961 and retired from there in 2001. He was a 57 year member
at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, was a part of the Marshall University
Fencing Club, and enjoyed many years as a soccer referee. A quiet man, he
loved to read and play his guitar. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his older brother Jerry. He is survived by his wife
Eileen Scott Schley, his two sons, Robert Ervin ( Kristin )Schley of
Nashville, and Jeremiah Paul ( Elizabeth )Schley of Columbus, grandchildren
Michael, Matthew, William, and Abigail; two sisters Dorothy Vasquez and
Kathleen (Dan) Neururer and his sister-in-law, Marion Schley. The family
would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s for the care we all received.
Visitation will take place at Beard Mortuary, Saturday December 29 from 3 to
6 pm. The funeral service will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church 3047
Washington Boulevard Huntington on Sunday December 30 at 3:00 pm. Pastor
Mark Kloha will be officiating. In lieu of flowers we are asking that
donations be made to the charity of your choice in Leo’s name so that his
compassion towards others can be spread to as many lives as possible.
