Colleen Phyllis (Moore) Hill
(October 10, 1928 ~ January 7, 2018)

Colleen Phyllis (Moore) Hill, 89, slipped away quietly surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at The Wyngate at RiversEdge Senior Living Community, Proctorville, Ohio.  Colleen was born in Huntington, WV on October 10, 1928.  She was the daughter of the late Phillip S. and V. Salome Moore.  A member of the Huntington High Class of 1946, Colleen later graduated from Marshall College in 1961 with BA in Special and Elementary Education.  She was a pioneer special educator and later became a skilled middle school math teacher.  Colleen’s career spanned more than 30 years with her initial service beginning in Ashland Kentucky at Baylus Elementary School.  The vast majority of her professional years, however, were spent as a beloved educator in the South Point Local School District helping hundreds of students master mathematical concepts.  Additionally, Colleen was the consummate cook and hostess; she loved feeding family and friends and her smile was ever present when she spending time with loved ones while sipping coffee and swapping stories full of laughter.  She was a former member of the Highlawn Baptist Church of Huntington, WV, and Church of the Valley in Milton, WV. In addition to her parents, Colleen is preceded in death by her husband C.N. Hill, Jr., in January of 1982; her son, James R. Hill in December of 2006; her sister, Betty Ann (Moore) Short and her brothers, Joe Moore, Jack Moore and Richard “Red” Moore.  She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline (Hill) Humphreys along with her husband, M.A. “Tony” Humphreys of Huntington, WV; her son, John L. Hill and his wife, Stephanie Musick-Hill of Chesapeake, OH; her granddaughters, Laura Hill Carey of South Point, OH; Dawn Hill Blakeman of Bossier City, LA, and Madelyn Clarice Hill of Chesapeake, OH; three great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Linda Hill of South Point, OH, and numerous loving and special cousins, nieces, and nephews.  The family would like to express gratitude to the administration and staff of The Wyngate for the loving care and attention to Colleen.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Colleen to Branches Domestic Violence Shelter, P.O. Box 403, Huntington, WV, 25708-0403; or Huntington Homeless Veterans Resource Center, 624 9th Street, Huntington, WV, 25701. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Mrs. Sandy Mers, officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Cemetery, Huntington. The family will welcome friends at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday at the funeral home.
