Betty Plott Weiler
(April 17, 1934 ~ January 1, 2018)
BETTY PLOTT WEILER, 83, Huntington
WV, passed peacefully, January 1, 2018 at the Woodlands Assisted Living,
Huntington. Betty was born April 17, 1934 in Logan, WV, daughter of the late
Chester Winfield Plott and Elizabeth Kerwood Plott. She was preceded in
death by her brother Jack Kerwood Plott, grandson Adam Weiler Guthrie,
nephew Jack Kerwood Plott II, and dear friend Marlene Spradling Plott. Betty
was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, raising 6 children and spending
countless hours volunteering at Little League 4 Baseball, YMCA Buddy
Basketball, and Huntington's Junior League. While raising a busy family,
she found time to become an accomplished tennis player, dominating local and
state tournaments. Betty was a tennis pro at the Huntington Tennis Club in
the 70s and early 80s before venturing into real estate where she helped her
son Jim launch RE/MAX Realty Consultants. She was a graduate of Hamlin High
School where she was a member of the basketball team, a cheerleader and
named Miss Bobcat. A 1955 graduate of Marshall (College) University, "Plott"
as she was frequently called was a fierce competitor in intramural and club
sports, and served as the President of the Women’s Athletic Association; a
Varsity Cheerleader for three years, serving as captain during her senior
year; a contributor to the Parthenon; and a member of Alpha Xi Delta
Sorority. Betty enjoyed family genealogy, competitive tennis, her annual
jaunt to Hilton Head Island with Marlene, her frequent trips to the family’s
cabin on the Greenbrier River, and her grandchildren. Betty is survived by
her husband of 62 years, James J. Weiler II and sons David W. Weiler (Kay)
of Norwich CT, James J. Weiler III (Sally) of Huntington WV, Dr. Robert M.
Weiler (Lisa) of Springfield VA, Mark S. Weiler, Charleston WV, Mike L.
Weiler (Hannah) of Barboursville, WV and daughter Elizabeth Weiler Jenkins
(Evan) of Huntington; four grandsons Andrew, Hollin, Charles, Jake; six
granddaughters Olivia, CeCe, Tess, Sophie, Emerson, and Darby; and numerous
nephews and nieces. Funeral liturgy will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018
at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Huntington. Afterwards,
the family will welcome friends in the Parrish Hall.
