Robert E. "Bob" Troy
(July 19, 1926 ~ January 1, 2018)
Robert E. “Bob” Troy, 91, of
Huntington, went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early afternoon hours
of January 1, 2018. He was born on July 19, 1926, in Hundred, WV, but then
moved to Parkersburg, WV, where he graduated from Parkersburg High School,
Class of 1944. He went on to obtain an accounting degree from Mountain State
College and he served as a ball turret gunner in a B-17 Flying Fortress in
the closing years of World War II. Bob was the son of the late Carl Troy and
Mary Milliken-Troy of Parkersburg. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his wives, Rita Grueser-Troy and Dona Ohlinger-Troy;
his daughter, Vicky Troy-Slaughter; an infant son, Bobby Troy, and infant
daughter, Debbie Troy; a brother, George Troy; and two sisters, Marie
Troy-Burge and Ann Troy-Brown. In the early years of his career he worked as
an auditor for the West Virginia State Tax Department, but he went on to own
and operate multiple businesses in the construction industry. He generously
gave of his time and financial resources to the Shriner’s Children’s
Hospital, and also the Stella Fuller Settlement, the Salvation Army and
other organizations which served Huntington’s less privileged. He was a
faithful lifetime member and founder of Christ the King Lutheran Church in
Huntington. He was also a member of the Huntington Lion’s Club, the Scottish
Rite, Beni Kedem Shriners Temple in Charleston, Western Star Lodge No. 11 in
Guyandotte, Guyan Golf & Country Club of Huntington, the Contractors
Association of WV, the National Asphalt Pavement Association, and American
Legion Post 200. Bob was a devout fan and supporter of Marshall University
athletics and was a member of the Big Green Club. He is survived by his
children, Mary Anne (Al) Troy-Harshbarger of Culloden, WV, Connie (Tim)
Troy-Cook of Palm City, FL, Mark (Sue) Troy of Charleston, WV, and Amy
(Shane) Troy-Masters of Berea, KY. He is also survived by his brother, James
(Pat) Troy, of Eleanor, WV, and by many loving grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members, and
his loving caregivers at The Village at Riverview in Barboursville.
Visitation for friends and family will take place on Wednesday, January 3rd
from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Beard Mortuary, Huntington. Funeral Services will
be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Christ the King
Lutheran Church in Huntington, with Rev. Carl W. Ames, officiating.
Entombment will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park, Abbey of Remembrance, in
Huntington.
