Charles Clayton McCreery
(February 12, 1931 - June 18, 2012)


Charles Clayton McCreery, 81, of Crown City, OH, husband of Diana Kay Evans McCreery, passed away Monday June 18, 2012, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday June 22, 2012 at Chapman’s Mortuary with Ernest Ritchie officiating. Burial with military graveside rites, preformed by Veterans Honor Guard Post 16, will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Pallbears will be his grandsons and nephews. He was born February 12, 1931, in Beckley, WV, a son of the late William A. and Georgia Anna Bliffen McCreery. Other family members to precede him in death were a son, Eddy Dean McCreery; a grandson, Shane Ryan McCreery; three sisters, Doris Bartrum, Joanne McCreery, and Anna Mae Baker; and three brothers, Teddy Richard McCreery, James Robert McCreery, and William H. McCreery. Charles was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a member of American Legion Post, 27, of Gallipolis, OH. He retired as a Mechanical Supervisor for Owens Illinois in Los Angeles, CA., and moved back to pursue his joy of farming and gardening. In addition to his wife Diana of 53 years, survivors include his children, Terry A McCreery and wife, Lori, of Atlanta, GA, Tanya Thomas and husband, Tony, of Nashville, TN, Freddy Gene McCreery of Bailey, NC, and Shannon Kay McCreery of Dickson, TN; three sisters, Helen Parsons of Hewitt, TX, Donna Marshall of Huntington, and Dianna Taylor of Proctorville, OH; two brothers, Thomas E. McCreery and wife, Sue, of Dayton, OH, and Lowell L. McCreery and wife, Mary, of South Point, OH; 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Friends may call 5:00-8:00 PM Thursday at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington.
