Gordon Charles "Gordie" Hermance
(November 28, 1941 - November 15, 2014)



Gordon Charles “Gordie” Hermance, 72, of Huntington, WV, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington WV with Arnold Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville WV. Gordie was born November 28, 1941 in Hudson, NY a son of the late Charles Lawrence and Dorothy Hamm Hermance. He is preceded in death by his wife Christine May Hermance of 42 years. Survivors include his three daughters that he loved very much, Sabrina Hermance Blankenship of Huntington, WV, Melissa (Kyle) Newman of Chesapeake, OH, and Nichole Hermance and John Williams of Wayne, WV, two granddaughters, Torrie Blankenship of Huntington, WV and Natashia (Michael) Hanshaw of Kenova, WV, one grandson, Charles Newman, one great-grandson, Elijah Hanshaw and one brother, Lawrence (Ellie) Hermance of Hudson, NY, several nieces and nephews and several friends and his Lifelong friends Artie and Joann Host of Eltopoa, WA, Rich and Beverly Samsel of Corinth, NY and Rusty and Joan Turner of Pineville, SC. He was a U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division Ranger serving during Vietnam. He was a lifelong member of the D.A.V, N.R.A. and a member American Legion Post 16, and an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He was a volunteer fireman for many years in Livingston, NY where he served as fire chief and also served on the rescue squad, upon moving to WV he became a fireman with Lavalette Volunteer Fire Dept. where he served as Asst. Chief. Veterans Honor Guard Post 16 will conduct military graveside rites. The family would like to thank the staff at the Huntington VAMC for the care they had shown to their father over the years as well as the ICU staff and doctors at Cabell Huntington Hospital and to one "very" special Dr. Rebecca Wolfer whom dad and family adore. Friends may call at Chapman’s Mortuary after noon on Thursday.
