ObituaryCHARLES RICHARD INGRAM Charles Richard “Chick” Ingram, 95, of Huntington, WV, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Charles was born in St. Mary's, WV a son of the late Creed Pearl Ingram and Bertha Wilson Ingram. Two brothers, Robert and Delno also preceded him in death. He was married to Alice Mary Robertson, a former Miss Parkersburg, who passed away in February 1985. Charles grew up in St. Mary's and graduated from St. Marys High School where he was an outstanding athlete, excelling in: football, basketball, baseball, golf, softball, track, tennis, bowling, and ping pong. In football, he was a wide receiver and half back and was the number one yard gainer in WV his senior year, scoring 53 points in a single year. He was first place on the All Conference Football Team and honorable mention on the All Conference Basketball Team. He was a class officer and the sports editor of the Argus. He attended Indiana Technical College in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he majored in civil engineering. During WWII, he was a member of the Civil Engineer Corps in the US Navy CB, serving in 41st Battalion, B Company. He served in the South Pacific in Guam and in the Aleutian Islands, including Kodiak, Long Island, and Spruce Island, Alaska, serving as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a lifetime member of the Navy Seabees. He was a member of the UMWA and Operating Engineers AFLCIO. He was a construction superintendent with W.A. Wilson and Son’s Construction Company. He was president and co-owner of Ingram Incorporated, contracting in OH and WV. He was also with the Dick Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA and Hanna Coal Co. in Cadiz, OH. He was also a land developer in St. Mary's, WV and Newport, OH. He was active in politics in Pleasants County, assisting in John F. Kennedy’s primary campaign in 1961. He helped to organize Coal Power Group in St. Clairsville, OH, a support group assisting miners’ widows. He started the first Lions Club in Mexico Beach, FL and was its first president. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Huntington, WV. He lived in Huntington where, even in his later years, he continued to enjoy an active social life, playing golf, working out at the YMCA and attending dances and dinners with friends. His special dancing partners were Willa Adams and Gladys Farley. Survivors include: three daughters Fran Finch of Richmond, VA; Mary Alice Roberts of Huntington, WV; and Kathy Peckhart of Glen Ellyn, IL; one son, Michael Charles Ingram of Corvallis, OR; six grandchildren: Sean Finch, Ashley Finch Potvin, Linda Roberts, Stephen Roberts, Derek Peckhart, and Danielle Peckhart; and four great-grandchildren: Matthew Potvin, Jason Potvin, Max Peckhart, and Alice Roberts. He was Poppa/Professor to Linda Spain, Michael Griffin, Jerry Fisher and Terry Peckhart. The family is very thankful for the kindness of Michelle and Jason Easthom, Laura Bowen, Kathy Sammons, Dr. Stephen Petrany, and the staff of Cabell Huntington Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our Lady of Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held on Friday December 5, 2014, at Chapman’s Mortuary at 6:30 pm with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Friends may visit with the family after 5:00 pm until service time at Chapman’s Mortuary.
