Rev. Robert E. (Elwood) Dille,
85, of Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly of Huntington, WV, husband of Mildred
Biser Whitlatch Dille passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 in the West
Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg, PA. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00
PM Saturday September 6, 2014 at Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church, with
the Rev. Ralph Sager and the Rev. Brian Lee Daugherty officiating. Burial
will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, WV. Robert was born April
20, 1929 in Huntington on 31st street, a son of the late Donald Dale and
Lily Moore Dille. He was married to Helen Margaret Green Dille in 1952.
Helen was his lifelong companion who he loved dearly and was by his side as
they served many churches; they were married for 55 years before HelenÂ’s
passing in 2008. He had a brother; Melvin D. Dille also preceded him in
death. In 2011 Robert married Mildred Biser Whitlatch of Boone, NC.,
originally of Keyser, WV. Mildred & Robert were "two peas in a pod" and the
best of traveling companions on their many trips up and down the east coast.
Mildred was a source of great comfort and strength to Robert during his
struggle with dementia. Robert loved Mildred dearly and her understanding
provided him with a feeling of security that he needed. In addition to his
wife surviving him, his son and daughter-in-law, John and Anne Dille of
Mechanicsburg, PA; two grandchildren, Gregory Dille and Caroline Dille, both
of Mechanicsburg, PA. Robert adored Greg and Caroline, his face lit up every
time he saw them and they all had many wonderful times at Blackwater Falls
State Park; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Steele of Milton, WV. Robert
attended Emmons Elementary, Enslow Junior High and graduated from Huntington
East High School the Class of 1947. After graduating High School Robert
attended Shennandoah Junior College and Conservatory of Music in Dayton,
Virginia where he received a Junior College Diploma. He was a student pastor
in the EUB Virginia Conference and served two churches, Pleasant Valley and
Harriston. He then attended Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio where he
received his AB (Artium Baccalaureatus) degree in 1955. Robert then attended
United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio where he received a Masters of
