Obituary

Betty L. Dundas, 90, of Huntington, WV passed away on August 2, 2016 at Heritage Center, Huntington. Mrs. Dundas was born on 9-2-25 in Henlawson, WV. She was a member of the former Southside United Methodist Church and Community of Grace UMC where she sang faithfully and beautifully in the choir until approximately a year ago. Betty had an awesome singing voice and performed many solos and duets with friends such as Arlene Simmons and Rev. Keith Leap. She was a member of the Dorcas Class at Southside where she had many friends. Mrs. Dundas loved writing poetry, reading, laughter, animals, and would recite the counties of West Virginia when prompted by her daughter Paula, to the chagrin of Jane and Valerie. Mrs. Dundas enjoyed taking long rides and always wanted to "take a little ride down to Camden Park." Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John T. and Grace E. Johnson, her brothers, Thomas and Ethan Johnson, and her sisters, Ruth Workman, Blanche Curtis, lda Jean Ferguson, Janice Eplion, and Maxine Rice, and by her former husband, Paul E. Dundas, and her little dog, Nipper. Mrs. Dundas is survived by her daughters, Valerie Nadine (Dennis) Fry, Jane -Ellen Bowen, and Paula Jo Hamrick (Steven) with whom she made her home. She is also survived by grandchildren: Andrew Bowen, Adam (Robin) Bowen, Nicholas Fry (Megan), Stephanie (Mike) Martin, and April Morales; and great grand-children: Cameron Martin, Avery Martin, Felicity Fry, Annalise Fry, Aiden Bowen, and Landon Bowen. Funeral/memorial service will be held at Community of Grace UMC, 225 28th Street, Friday August 5, 2016 at noon, with Rev. Larry Albright, Rev. Steven Hamrick and Rev. Dennis Fry officiating. The family would like to thank the dedicated nurses and aides on the third floor at Heritage Center and especially to Sharon Leap who supervised her care, Dr. Nair, and Hospice of Huntington. Special thanks goes to the caregivers from Right at Home and Helen Thornhill, who has been a constant source of comfort. Memorial donations may be sent to Community of Grace UMC Choir, or to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until noon on Friday at the church. Chapman's Mortuary Huntington is assisting the family.
