Mary Daisy Martinez Vega, 87 years old, passed away at home August 27, 2016 in South Point, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born August 10, 1929 in Totora, Bolivia a daughter of the late Juan and Leticia Villarroel Martinez. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Elmer Teofilo Vega on June 16, 2016. She is survived by her loved ones which include her three children and their spouses as well as fourteen grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. These include daughter Mary Elizabeth married to Dr. Matthew Harris and their six children, Amanda, Joshua, Marquis, Micah, Anna and Merrick, son, Dr. Michael Elmer Vega married to Paula and their three children, Evan, Austin and Lauren, daughter, Magaly Evelyn married to Dr. Jeff Overstreet and their five children, Joseph, Justin, Jordan, John and Jhovana; two brothers, Carlos Martinez and Julian Martinez; and two sisters, Fanny Vink and Elsa Vasquez. Mary, raised on a family farm In the Andes mountains in Duraznillo, attended a teachers college and worked in Cochabamba, Bolivia where she met and married her husband, Elmer. Together they moved to the United States, setting up house in St Louis Illinois, Cleveland Ohio, Bluefield, West Virginia, then out of the country to Montreal, Canada, for Elmer to complete his training as an anesthesiologist. Elmer and Mary would spend most of their life working and raising their family in Huntington, West Virginia. Mary, a supportive and devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend demonstrated great love and generosity. She deeply cherished and nurtured her friendships. Mary and Elmer as a couple assisted many people in establishing themselves in this great country. She will always be remembered for her genuine hospitality, her administrative abilities, her unique zest for adventure and living life "her way". Mary and her devoted husband are once again united in heaven. Memorial and Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, West Virginia with Father Dean Borgmeyer officiating.
