Obituary



Dr . Joseph H. Sheppe, 93, of Proctorville, OH, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at his home. The funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Ridgelawn Memorial Park's Abbey of Devotion officiated by Reverend Chris Perkins. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Joe was born March 27, 1924 in Roanoke County, VA, son of the late Alfred and Irene Ballard Sheppe. He was a retired Orthodontist, U.S. Army veteran, longtime member and past Elder of Enslow Park Presbyterian Church, lifetime NRA member, past Cabell County Commissioner, former Park Board Commissioner, and past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E.. He was an avid Marshall supporter, raised and bred Labrador Retrievers, and was passionate about baseball in Huntington, playing and coaching. Preceding him in death was his first wife Frances Rathburn Sheppe, brother Dr. Jack O. Sheppe, and grandson John A. Miller. He is survived by his wife Janet Lovett Sheppe, sister Anne Edeburn, three daughters, Susan Hale (John) of Tallahassee,FL, Nancy Allen (David) of Athens, GA, and Jan Sheppe of Dayton, OH, son Dr. Joseph A.Sheppe (Kathy) of Columbia, SC, two stepdaughters, Peggy Jarrell (Bill) of Kenova, Nancy Lovett of Huntington, stepson Tim Lovett (Cheryl) of Louisville, KY, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, and 14 step-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Enslow Park Presbyterian Church. Chapman's Mortuary Huntington is assisting the family.
