Ronald Lee Layne
(December 17, 1939 - January 22, 2011)



Ronald Lee Layne, 71, of Huntington went home to be with his Lord on January 22, 2011. Ronald was born December 17, 1939 to Paul Layne Sr. and Norma Mae Edwards of Guyandotte, WV. He was a crane operator at Steele of West Virginia for 47 years. He proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and the National Guard. Ronald was a faithful servant of God and served as Chairman of the Deacon Board at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for several years, until his death. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Layne, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Virnilla Layne; eight children, Robbie (Velma) Layne of Huntington, WV, Carolyn Bush of Louisville, KY, Sharon Ruffin, Norma Gaines, Timothy (Monica) Layne, Jackie (Henry) Smith of Huntington, WV, Chevella (Lenorris) Dixon of Charleston, WV and Regina Hill, Huntington, WV; 28 Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren; 2 godchildren; 4 brothers, Eugene (Peggy) Layne, Richmond, IN; Harry (Brenda) Layne, South Point, OH, Matthew Layne, Huntington, WV and Marvin (Cathy) Layne, Burlington, OH; 4 sisters, Betty Brown, Ashland, KY; Patricia Hughes, Gloria Greene and Shirley Oden, all of Huntington, WV; 2 brothers-in-law: Earnest Franklin, Belton, TX and Harold (Norma) Franklin, Fort Worth, TX.; 2 sisters-in-law: Verlean (Henry) Baston and Ora Rhodes, Fort Worth, TX; a close friend; George Handy; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was a devoted Saint of God, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. Funeral service will be 1 PM Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Reginald Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Visitation will be 11 am until service time at the church. Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington is in charge of arrangements.
