Darrell Edmond Byrd, Sr
(March 30, 1941 - January 19, 2012)



Darrell Edmond Byrd, Sr., was called to His Heavenly Home, on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, after a long illness. He was born March 30, 1941, in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Edmond “Dick” Byrd and Anna Thornburg Byrd, his brother, Gary Richard Byrd, and sister, Phyllis Byrd Waugh. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Dixon Byrd. Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 11 am, New Beginning Apostolic Church, Huntington, with Pastor Todd Mills and Bishop Norman Mills, officiating. Darrell was a member of the Church. Darrell was a retired Truck Driver, for BFI Industries, in Virginia. He enjoyed Collecting Guns, Fishing, and spending time with Family and Friends. Darrell was a Wonderful Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and a very loving pow-paw. Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Roberts Byrd, daughters, Teresa Byrd Mahoney (William), and Dana Turner (Bruce), both of Hopewell, VA, a son, Darrell Edmond (Jay) Byrd, Jr. of Richmond, VA, step-children, Carlene LaPointe, and Melanie Roberts, both of Huntington, and Frank (Terry) Roberts, of Poca. Sisters include, Mary Byrd Young (Richard), of Huntington, Tammy Byrd Starkey (Lee), of Glenwood. Brothers, David (Shelia) Byrd, of Huntington, Ricky (Penny) Byrd, of Proctorville, Raymond Byrd, of Barboursville, and Jeffrey (Robin) Byrd, of Huntington. Sister in Law: Louise Cremeans, of South Point Brother in Law: Paul (Marlana) Holley, of Chesapeake Grandchildren include: Melissa Mahoney Funk (Justin), and Jessica Mahoney, step-grandchildren, Lisa LaPointe Jackson (Darrell), Brent (Amy) Roberts, Billy Joe (Tosha) Roberts, Bradley Roberts, Brandon Roberts Great grandchildren include: Madison Mahoney & Hunter Mahoney, step Great-Grandchildren, Cherokee, Gavin and Meaghan Jackson, Randon Lee, Braylie, Micaiah, Josiah, Nehamiah, Zecharah, Amiyah Grace Roberts. Special Niece and her Husband, Michelle and Billy Shafer. Special Friend, Dennis Mills. He is also survived by many Niece’s, Nephew’s, Cousins and Friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012, at New Beginning Apostolic Church, in Huntington. Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home is entrusted with the care of Mr. Byrd. Friends may call from 6pm to 8 pm at the Church. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012.
