Scottie E. King, 67, of Huntington, WV gained his wings on November 10, 2015 at home surrounded but his loving family. He fought his battle with cancer courageously, like any Marine would. How ironic he would gain his wings on the 240th U.S. Marine Corps Birthday. Scottie was born in Lincoln County, WV on February 8, 1948 to the late Ellis and Eva King. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Dye King, two brothers; Carl (Jane Jobe) King and Charles (Belinda) King of Huntington, daughter; Sherreé (Chris Jones) King-Jones of Hope Mills, NC, son; Scottie King, Jr. of Huntington. Also surviving, stepdaughter; Brooke (Kenny) Watkins of Parkersburg, WV, stepson; Dennis Hutton II of Parkersburg, WV and mother in-law; Hazel Moore of Parkersburg, WV. Grandchildren; Samantha (Patrick Maack) Jones-Maack of Huntington, Jacob (Jordan) Jones serving in U.S Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC, Brandon (Shannon) King serving in the USAF, Okinawa, Japan, Makenzie and Gabrielle Jones of Hope Mills, NC, Ethan King of Huntington and Jonah King of Huntington. Step-Grandchildren; Alexis Rice, Gunner Sands, Bryson Hutton and Quentin Hutton all of Parkersburg, WV. Great-Granddaughter; Sasha Jones along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Best friends; Vernon Ruley and Gary (Doc) Shrecongost. He was a graduate of Huntington East High School and Marshall University with a degree in criminal justice. Scottie served in the U.S Marine Corps in the Viet Nam war where he received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, among other medals. He was a life member of VFW Post #1064, where he held many offices and was a Past State Commander and National District Council Member #6, serving Virginia and West Virginia. Scottie was also a member of the Marine Corps League Detachment 340, The Military Order of Devil Dogs Pound 215, Viet Nam Veterans Association, Military Order of Cooties, Barboursville Veterans Home Auxiliary and Veterans for Civic Improvement, he was also a member of 26th Street Baptist Church. Scottie sang lead in the gospel group, Sudden Life Quartet for many years. Scottie and his wife, Pamela also produced a traditional country band, The Saturday Night Jamboree. He and his son, Scottie, Jr. were also an implementer in bringing back the Soap Box Derby to Huntington. He was retired from the United States Postal Service. Viewing will be Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 12:00 P.M., November 16, 2015 with visitation one hour prior at 26th Street Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Arthur officiating. Burial will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.
