Katherine Ruth Medley Stevens
(September 22, 1931 - April 24, 2016)

Katherine Ruth Medley Stevens, 84, of Huntington, WV, passed away as she prepared to go to church on Sunday morning, April 24, 2016. God decided He wanted her to come home to be with Him. Katherine Ruth was born September 22, 1931 in Huntington, WV; the daughter and only child of the late Irvin and Isabell Medley and the widow of the late Harold Stevens, Sr. She attended St. Peter Claver and Barnett Elementary schools and graduated from Douglass High School. She worked many years as a receptionist at the 20th Street Bank before her retirement. She was an active member of the 16th Street Baptist Church serving on numerous committees – she was a former member of the Church Choir, the Women’s Ministry, the Women’s Auxiliary, the Culinary Committee and was a member of the Wednesday Bible Study Group. She and Maxine Hale were the first Women Trustees of the Church. Katherine Ruth was an active member of the Marie Redd Senior Life Enrichment Center – where she volunteered in the kitchen. She loved to travel and enjoyed going on cruises with her family and friends. She enjoyed shopping and went to the Mall every weekend to shop, eat and go to the movie. She was an avid reader and could be found every evening sitting on the front porch reading; she could read an entire book in one day! She tirelessly and faithfully supported and attended various community events. She leaves to mourn her two dearest friends; Vivian Peters and Janet White Spinks, her step children; Harold Stevens, Jr., Yvonne McNeill, Gregory Stevens, Teresa Stevens, Michael Stevens and Roy Stevens; her very special cousin, Judge Dwane L. Tinsley and a host of cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the 16th Street Baptist Church, Huntington with Rev. Roy E. Terry officiating. Family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home.
