Obituary

James Morton
(March 24, 1939 - January 2, 2019)

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of James “Jimmy” C. Morton on January 2, 2019.  He was born on March 24, 1939.  Jimmy was a life-long resident of Huntington and a graduate of Douglass High School.  He retired from the YMCA after more than 20 years of service.  Jimmy was loved by all and was respected by all the youth he mentored and/or coached.  He leaves behind to mourn his loss; wife of 58 years, Zelma Morton; sons, James Morton, Jr. and Michael “Mike” Morton; brother, Robert Morton; and sister, Martha Wood; 6 grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter who was the apple of his eye.  Also, surviving is a host of extended family and friends.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Young Chapel A.M.E. with Bishop Samuel R. Moore, officiating.  Family will welcome friends one hour prior to services.
