Donald Ray
Ramsey Sr.
(May 11, 1951 - March 25, 2020)
Donald Ray Ramsey, Sr, 68, went to be
with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at
Huntington Health and Rehabilitation in Huntington, West Virginia.
Donald was born on May 11, 1951 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Clarence
Edward and Alice Vivian (Smith) Ramsey. He is preceded in death by his
sister, Josine L. (Deanie) Burns. Donald graduated from Central High
School in Louisville in 1969 where he played drums in the band. He was a big
Louisville Cardinal fan. He also loved music. He enjoyed playing his bass
guitar which he taught himself to play. He also enjoyed singing and often
spoke about singing with his brother and cousins in the Junior Brotherhood
at church when he was a teenager. After graduating Donald
immediately went to work for L&N Railroad (CSX). In 1987 his job transferred
to Huntington, West Virginia but his heart was always in Louisville. He
retired with 38 years of service in 2007 after suffering a stroke. Don
leaves behind his wife, Pamela (nee Johnson), sons Darryl (Evonda), Don-Don,
Dennis (Alex), Deion, daughter, Monica (Michael) Harrison, grandsons, Levone,
Dejuan, Terrell, Lamont, Cameron, Jiraiya, Ezra, granddaughter, Kayla and
great-grandchildren, Levone Jr, Heaven and Journey. Also, brothers Ronald
(Debra) and Tony (Tonya), and two very special cousins, Wardell and William
Smith who were more like brothers to him and Ronald than cousins. They
always delighted in the fact that they were double cousins. Also his other
mother Hattie M. “Granny” Ramsey, with whom he shared a special bond and a
very dear lifelong friend, Laurene Love. He also leaves behind a host of
nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Don will be greatly
missed but will always be remembered as a good man that loved his family.
Visitation for Donald will be Monday, March 30, 2020 at Ferrell-Chambers
Funeral Home in Huntington, WV from 12-1 pm. A private service for family
only will follow. His body will be cremated and a memorial service will be
held at a later date in Louisville, Kentucky.
