Obituary

John William Clark

John William Clark, born March 28, 1949, peacefully departed this life taking his Heavenly Father’s hand on July 15, 2021, at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents: John Wesley Clark, Ellen Branham Clark Powell and stepfather, William Powell.
Born in Logan County WV, he was known affectionately by his middle name, William. He was a member of Mount Olivet Missionary Baptist Church in Amherstdale, WV. He was baptized at a very young age and served as an usher. William found joy in saving and giving money to the church youth choir. William’s christian growth continued to be nourished under his spiritual leader, Pastor Ricky French. He faithfully attended church every Sunday and oh how William loved his church family. He also enjoyed working for senior citizens and was thrilled when they paid him. He then bought gifts for his mother, and also bubble gum and other candy for his nieces and nephews.
William relocated to Huntington, WV, in May 2005, where he resided with his devoted caregiver and cousin, Stephanie Holman, and his very special best friend, Bernice Jones. He soon thereafter joined Encouragers Fellowship Church where he served as an usher under the leadership of the late Bishop John Martin and Pastor Phyllis D Martin.

William always greeted people with a kindhearted smile that made your day brighter. He was also very funny. He loved to play “peek-a-boo” with the little kids and the big kids at heart. William will be dearly missed at family reunions, where he enjoyed learning the family history and of course, “jamming to the beat” on the dance floor.
William leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters: Virginia (Pinky) McGowan of Plainfield, NJ, and Elazada Louis of Amherstdale, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff members of HHR and Heritage Nursing Homes, Cabell-Huntington Hospital and Saint Mary's Hospital.
The medical challenges William experienced did not prevent him from treasuring life to its fullest. We will miss William’s loving smile and spirit.
A Home-Going Service will be conducted 10:00 A.M, Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home with Dr. Don Porter officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Guyan Memorial Gardens, Pecks Mill, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
