Obituary

Emma Lene Harshbarger, 107, of Milton, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2006 in Heartland of Charleston nursing home.  She was born November 30, 1898, in Friendly, Tyler County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Clement Baxter Owens and Rosa Ella Williamson.  She is also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Scott Harshbarger; her son, Sam Ross Harshbarger; her brother, Earl Owens; her sister, Glenna Heck; her sister-in-law, Catherine Ball; and one brother-in-law, J. Harold Harshbarger.  Mrs. Harshbarger was a member of the Milton Methodist Church.  She was a charter member and first President of the Milton Garden Club.  An alumnus of Marshall University, Mrs. Harshbarger spent over 23 years teaching in the West Virginia school system, most notably and extended tenure with Morris Memorial Childrens Hospital for polio victims.  Surviving her are three grandchildren, James Patrick Harshbarger of Wilmington, Delaware, Beverly Anne Brooks of Charleston and Samuel David Harshbarger of Saratoga Springs, New York.  Her great-grandchildren are David Moore Harshbarger of Wilmington, Delaware, and Paul Louis Harshbarger and Jack Ford Harshbarger of Saratoga Springs, New York.  Also surviving her are sister-in-law, Nell Harshbarger; two nieces, JoAnn Owens and Jean Morris; one nephew, Perry Owens; one niece-in-law, Bess Heck; and great nephew, John Heck.  Mrs. Harshbarger?s great passion for West Virginia, her wit and her gracious and gregarious spirit will always be remembered by family and friends.  A memorial service will be held at the Milton Methodist Church on Friday, August 18, 2006 at 2 p.m.  There will be a private interment at the Milton Cemetery following the service.  Heck Funeral Home, Milton is assisting the family with the arrangements.
