Obituary

Lloyd Ernest Brumfield, 89, of Barboursville went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, May 31, 2006 in St. Marys Medical Center after a long battle with numerous health issues that he faced with courage and dignity.  Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Bill Davis and Pastor Daniel Beaver officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, W.Va..  Lloyd was born April 27, 1917 in Switzer, W.Va. a son of the late, Alvis and Roonie Hall Brumfield.  He is also preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Stollings Brumfield; two sisters, Helen Brumfield Crytzer and Mary Lou Brumfield Clay; one brother, Charles Lee Brumfield.  Lloyd was a veteran of the Army 82nd Air Borne Division and served his country in Normandy where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart.  He was a member of the D.A.V., VFW and the American Legion.  After his years in the service he spent forty and half years as a coal miner.  He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America for over seventy years where he served on numerous union committees.  Lloyd was extremely active in politics and was chairman of the Republican Party of Logan County; before moving to Cabell County in 1988.  He was a life time member of the National Rifle Association.  He was also a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.   He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Belinda Brumfield of Barboursville who was devoted to, loved and cared for her father for many years; one sister, Betty Brumfield Brown of Ravenswood, W.Va.; one brother, George R. Brumfield of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Myrtle Stollings Belcher and numerous nieces and nephews.  Thanks go out to the many people who were so helpful and kind during Lloyds final days on earth, including neighbors, Steve and Faith Johnson, Ted and Angie Kinder, Wendall Wallace, Merle Stratton, his church family at Antioch, the staff of St. Marys Medical Center six south team four, Dr. Gerrit  Kimmey, Hospice of Huntington, a special niece, Cathy Belcher-Ronnen.  Special thanks to Mr. James Waugh with whom Lloyd enjoyed a number of days of fellowship and friendship and who was a great comfort and help.  Also thank you Linda Brumfield a sister-in-law who was literally a pillar of support to Lloyd and his family and whose care-giving was invaluable, and thanks to all those whos thoughts and prayers for Lloyd and his family are sincerely appreciated.   Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2006 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton.
