Retired Air National Guard Brigadier General James N. Hudgins of Milton died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 in Barboursville, WV. General Hudgins is a graduate of Air Command and Staff College and Air War College. He attended the US Army as a private and ended his reserve military career as a Deputy Commander, West Virginia Air National Guard. General Hudgins received numerous military awards, including the Legion of Merit. Jim retired after a 32 year career with Cabell County Public Schools. He taught chemistry and physics at Milton High School for ten years and was a counselor at Barboursville High School for ten years. His last 12 years were spent as Supervisor of Instruction for Cabell County Schools. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Bruce and Nellie Conner Hudgins and his sister, Anna Mae Hudgins. Jim is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Harshbarger and nephew, Chris Edward Harshbarger; grand nephew, John David Harshbarger and grand niece, Kristen Leigh Harshbarger Armstrong. His decades-long love affair and commitment to Nancy Lou Harris of Charleston, WV was the greatest adventure of his lifetime. Jim struggled with the meaning of life, but was at peace with God. Hudgins requested that his body be cremated and that there be no public memorial.
