Obituary
Herbert Smith, 81, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 23, 2010 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 PM, Monday, September 27, 2010 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Rev. Winford Curry officiating. Entombment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born November 8, 1928 in Pikeville, KY a son of the late John Wetzel and Edna Alice Hatfield Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jennie Lee Smith; son-in-law, Roy Lewis; brothers, William, Wetzel, Jr., and Tolbert; sisters, Dorothy and Lorraine Nichols. He was retired from C & O Railroad after 45 years of service. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, active in the Milton V.F.D. in his younger years, and a member of the Brotherhood of Retired Railroad Workers. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Lewis of Milton, Barbara (Ottie) Keaton of Hamlin; two sons, Herbert Lee Smith of Milton and James Douglas Smith (Randy Walker) of St. Albans; six brothers, Fred (Dottie) Smith of Milton, Frank (JoAnn) Smith of Tennessee, Doug (Ginger) Smith of Barboursville, Robert Lee (Denise) Smith of Culloden, Vernon (Kathleen) Smith of Culloden, Homer (Debbie) Smith of Milton; five sisters, Pat (Richard) Cavner of Texas, Ruby (Don) Sowards of Milton, Charlotte (Homer) Nance of Milton, Jodi (David) Clark of Culloden, and Sue Blevins of Huntington; six grandchildren, Lisa (Darrell) Steed, David (Johnna) Lewis, Darin (Beth) Harding, Jeff Harding, Jayson Smith, and Jeremy Smith; five great grandchildren, Danielle (David) Burgess, Scotty Harding, Hannah Lewis, Joshua Lewis, and Tyler Steed; seven step great grandchildren, Austin Steed, Joey, Amanda, and Cody Lawhon, Kevin, Kristen, and Greg Keaton; good friends and neighbors, Opie and Eva Edwards and Glen Allen and Maureen Foster. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM, Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton.
