Rose Catherine (Burns) Clark
(January 23, 1926 - July 31, 2018)
Rose “Catherine” Burns Clark of
Hurricane entered into her Heavenly rest on July 31, 2018 at her home.
Catherine was the widow of Morris Reece “Tom” Clark to whom she was married
for 56 years. She was preceded in death by their infant son, Michael Ray
Clark. She was the second child and eldest daughter of the late LeRoy and
Ethel Burns. She was also preceded in death by two of her brothers, Lyle
Roy Burns and Henry Jackson “Jackie” Burns; one sister, Salena Alice
Handley; a grandson, Jason Swan; a nephew, Daniel Jackson and a great
nephew, Derek Means. Left to remember Catherine are her son, Karol Morris
Clark of Hurricane; her three daughters and their spouses, Linda and Jim
Swan of Culloden, Lana and Thom Kessler of Hurricane and Lora and Dale
Marshall of San Antonio, TX. She leaves five grandchildren and their
spouses, Cathy and Rick Eveson of Mooresville, NC, Bobbi Jo and Mike Hammett
of Scott Depot, Jill Clark of Miami, FL, Tarrish Black, and Aleshia and
Jason Thomasson of Hurricane. She also has 11 great grandchildren, three
great-great grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews. Also surviving
Catherine is one brother, William Burns of Culloden; one sister, Sue Ann
Jackson and her husband, Ronnie of Culloden; and her foster brother, Eugene
Wendall. Catherine was retired from the Putnam County Board of Education,
working as a custodian in the Hurricane School System, where she formed many
friendships. Over the years many teachers and students told her how much
they liked her and respected her work ethic and appreciated her kindness to
them. She enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening and working in her yard
until it became difficult for her to do so. The family wished to express
their gratitude to the compassionate women who so kindly cared for Catherine
during the last months of her life: Patty Gillispie, Sharon Cooper, Ashley
Lovejoy, Sarah McCallister, Christina Byrd, Norma Raines and Kim Helper.
Catherine was a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church
in Hurricane, WV. A celebration of her life will take place at Heck Funeral
Home on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 1 p.m. The family will receive visitors
two hours prior to the service, which will be conducted by the Rev. Jeremy
Daniels.
