Obituary

Rose Catherine (Burns) Clark
(January 23, 1926 - July 31, 2018)

Rose “Catherine” Burns Clark of Hurricane entered into her Heavenly rest on July 31, 2018 at her home.  Catherine was the widow of Morris Reece “Tom” Clark to whom she was married for 56 years.  She was preceded in death by their infant son, Michael Ray Clark.  She was the second child and eldest daughter of the late LeRoy and Ethel Burns.  She was also preceded in death by two of her brothers, Lyle Roy Burns and Henry Jackson “Jackie” Burns; one sister, Salena Alice Handley; a grandson, Jason Swan; a nephew, Daniel Jackson and a great nephew, Derek Means.  Left to remember Catherine are her son, Karol Morris Clark of Hurricane; her three daughters and their spouses, Linda and Jim Swan of Culloden, Lana and Thom Kessler of Hurricane and Lora and Dale Marshall of San Antonio, TX.  She leaves five grandchildren and their spouses, Cathy and Rick Eveson of Mooresville, NC, Bobbi Jo and Mike Hammett of Scott Depot, Jill Clark of Miami, FL, Tarrish Black, and Aleshia and Jason Thomasson of Hurricane.  She also has 11 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.  Also surviving Catherine is one brother, William Burns of Culloden; one sister, Sue Ann Jackson and her husband, Ronnie of Culloden; and her foster brother, Eugene Wendall.  Catherine was retired from the Putnam County Board of Education, working as a custodian in the Hurricane School System, where she formed many friendships.  Over the years many teachers and students told her how much they liked her and respected her work ethic and appreciated her kindness to them.  She enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening and working in her yard until it became difficult for her to do so.  The family wished to express their gratitude to the compassionate women who so kindly cared for Catherine during the last months of her life:  Patty Gillispie, Sharon Cooper, Ashley Lovejoy, Sarah McCallister, Christina Byrd, Norma Raines and Kim Helper.  Catherine was a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church in Hurricane, WV.  A celebration of her life will take place at Heck Funeral Home on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 1 p.m.  The family will receive visitors two hours prior to the service, which will be conducted by the Rev. Jeremy Daniels.
