Obituary
Rev. Melvin Lee “Jack” Grimes, 91, of
Milton, WV, and formerly of New Haven and Evans, WV, passed away April 8,
2018, at his home following an extended illness. He was born January 28,
1927, in Ona, WV, the son of the late Robert M. and Lenora “Tassie”
(Thacker) Grimes. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death
by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Margaret Marie (Holley)
Grimes; son, James Robert “Jimmy” Grimes; great grandson, Christopher Gage
Carter, and brothers, Glenn Grimes and Charles Grimes. Jack was a World
War II United States Army veteran and served with the 88th Infantry
Division. He was retired from the United States Postal Service with 34
years of service and was a retired Baptist Minister and member of the
Evergreen Hills Missionary Baptist Church, Culloden. He was also a former
funeral attendant for the Heck Funeral Home, Milton and then, following
his retirement served 17 years as a dedicated attendant for the Casto
Funeral Home, Evans, WV. Survivors include his daughter, Kay Ford and her
husband, Danny of Milton, WV; grandchildren, Sherry Wendell, Heather Ford,
Kerri (Tim) Lewis and Chance (Catherine) Grimes; great grandchildren, C.J.
Grimes, Coleton Carter, Abby Wendell and Cailyn Grimes; daughter-in-law,
Sue Grimes and special friends, Bob and Sherry Ramsey, Pat and Mark Cutlip,
Tim Bogren and Doug and Michelle Maxey. The family would like to express a
special thank you to Huntington Hospice and Wayne Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center. Service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018,
at the Henson-Kitchen Mortuary, Huntington, WV. Military honors by Milton
American Legion, Post #139 will be held following the service. Visitation
will be from 5 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will
be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Arrangements are being
provided by Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV.
