Obituary
Clyde E. Whited, 93, of Huntington,
WV went to his eternal home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2018. This
obituary was written several years ago by Clyde and given to his daughters
to keep until his death.
I was born in Gay, WV on September 28, 1925 to Rev. C.D. Whited and Dollie
G. Fields Whited. I had three siblings; a sister, Audrey N. Williams and
brothers, Clarence C. Whited and Golden Ree Whited.; all who have preceded
me in death. It was a privilege to be born into this family (the best ever).
It was under my dad’s preaching, I accepted the Lord as my Savior.
I lived and attended schools in the following areas: Gandeeville, WV,
Reedsville, WV, Stewartstown, WV, Point Marion, PA and Morgantown, WV. I was
drafted out of high school into the Army during World War Two and the
“Battle of the Bulge”, in Belgium and Germany. I served with the “Big Red
1.” I received three Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, European Middle
East Campaign Medal, Specialty Rifleman 745 Sharpshooter Medal, and several
others. I was honored and proud to have served my country.
After discharge, I attended Marshall University and received my A.S. in
Business. It was during this time I met a beautiful lady named Virginia
Ingels. We fell in love and I asked her to marry me. We had a wonderful life
together. She preceded me in death in October of 2003. We were blessed with
two daughters, Sharon Kay Brown (husband Dr. William H. Brown Jr.) and
Jacqueline A. Woody (husband Larry L. Woody). My beloved grandchildren are,
Larry Bradford Christopher (wife Laura Beth) and Amy Leigh Christopher
Maynard (husband Steve). We were blessed again with five
great-grandchildren; Tyler Edward Deering, Haleigh McKay Christopher, Luke
Bradford Christopher, Jenna Lauren Christopher and Landon Beau Christopher.
I was employed by Gerber Baby Food Products for over 30 years, as the
Territory Manager over Southern Ohio, Eastern Kentucky and Northern
Virginia, where we served the retail food stores. I was a lifetime member of
the Disabled American Veterans, an active member and showman in the WV Fox
Hunters Association, where I accumulated over 168 trophies. I attended and
was a member of Cross Roads Methodist Church in Huntington, WV.
I will always remember my wife Virginia, my two fine daughters, my beloved
grandchildren and great grandchildren who meant so much to me. They were the
stars in my life. I know they will set high goals in life, achieve them and
make fine citizens. I have loved you all very much and now go to my eternal
home in Heaven.
A celebration of his life will be on Sunday, October 28, at 2:00 PM at
Henson and Kitchen Mortuary, 6357 East Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, with
son-in-law Larry L. Woody and Stan Wikle officiating. Burial will follow at
Ridgelawn Memorial Park in Huntington. The family will receive friends one
hour prior to services on Sunday at the mortuary.
