Robert Harold Brown
(February 20, 1931 - July 18, 2014)



Robert Harold Brown, age 83, of Huntington, West Virginia died on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. His home was Woodlands Retirement Community where he and his wife, Barbara, had lived for the past eighteen years. He was born here in Huntington on February 20, 1931. He was predeceased by his parents, William Hartley Brown & Marie Brown Puckett and his sister Betty Brown Leep. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Adkins Brown; his daughter Ellen Brown Waltman, James (son-in-law), as well as his beloved grandson, James Robert Waltman (Jamey) all of Dayton, Ohio; and his twin brother, Dr. William R. Brown(Diane)of Chesterfield, Indiana. He was a 1949 graduate of Huntington High School and an Air Force Veteran (1950-1954) of the Korean Conflict, serving in Libya, Tripoli, and Ankara, Turkey as a Weather Specialist. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Secondary Education at Marshall University. Ohio State University, Reed College (Oregon), and University of Southern California were sites for furthering his education. He taught Natural Sciences for 28 years at El Camino College in Torrance, California. At this time his Laboratory Text was written and published and used at many colleges throughout the country. He was in “Who’s Who in Science” and a science Lecture Hall was named and dedicated in his honor at El Camino College. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa (University of Southern California chapter). He was also President of El Camino College Teachers Association for many years. He was a Lifetime Episcopalian; having been baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s and married at Trinity. He served in several capacities and for 28 years at St. Andrew’s in Torrance, California as Junior and Senior Wardens. On his return to Huntington in 1990, Trinity was his church where he again served where needed as Junior/ Senior Wardens, etc. for a number of years. The Brown Family appreciates the love and support from their Church Family and dearest friends, especially all of those in their Woodlands Family who have cared for and supported them through some very difficult times as well as Hospice of Huntington. On Saturday, July 26, 2014 a Memorial Service will held at 11:00 am at Trinity Episcopal Church.
