Obituary

Rosemary David
(December 31, 1919 - June 7, 2014)

ROSEMARY JORDAN DAVID, of Huntington, died at her home in The Woodlands on June 7, 2014. She was born in Lawrence, Mass., on December 31, 1919, and attended public schools there. After graduating from the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, she worked at hospitals in Boston and then in Chicago, where she met her husband of 62 years, Kirk Jamieson David, MD. They moved to Huntington in 1952. She was a co-founder and elected first president of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary (now called the Friends of St. Mary's). She was an active supporter of local arts and community organizations, including the regional Girl Scout Council and The Huntington Chamber Orchestra. She was appointed to the community board of the Marshall Artists Series. In addition, she served on the woman's council of the Huntington Museum of Art. Her longest affiliation has been with Our Lady of Fatima Parish, which she and her family joined when they moved to Huntington. She was an avid golfer and member of Guyan Golf and Country Club. She was predeceased by her husband and by her four siblings, Clare Jordan, Mark Jordan, Gerad Jordan, and her twin, Maryrose Baiano. She is survived by her five children, Kathleen David and John Funk, of Arlington, Va.; Marguerite David, of Seattle; Joseph David and Patricia Shipley of Charlottesville, Va.; Kirk Jr. and Earleen David, of Lexington, Ky.; and Maureen David and Bruce Clay, of Huntington; and one grandson, Kirk David III, of Lexington, Ky. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Pallotti Fund of the St. Mary's Medical Center Foundation or to Hospice of Huntington. Visitation hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, and a funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, with burial to follow at Woodmere Cemetery.
