Rosemary David
(December 31, 1919 - June 7, 2014)
ROSEMARY
JORDAN DAVID, of Huntington, died at her home in The Woodlands
on June 7, 2014. She was born in Lawrence, Mass., on December 31, 1919, and
attended public schools there. After graduating from the Peter Bent Brigham
Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, she worked at hospitals in Boston and
then in Chicago, where she met her husband of 62 years, Kirk Jamieson David,
MD. They moved to Huntington in 1952. She was a co-founder and elected first
president of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary (now called the Friends of
St. Mary's). She was an active supporter of local arts and community
organizations, including the regional Girl Scout Council and The Huntington
Chamber Orchestra. She was appointed to the community board of the Marshall
Artists Series. In addition, she served on the woman's council of the
Huntington Museum of Art. Her longest affiliation has been with Our Lady of
Fatima Parish, which she and her family joined when they moved to
Huntington. She was an avid golfer and member of Guyan Golf and Country
Club. She was predeceased by her husband and by her four siblings, Clare
Jordan, Mark Jordan, Gerad Jordan, and her twin, Maryrose Baiano. She is
survived by her five children, Kathleen David and John Funk, of Arlington,
Va.; Marguerite David, of Seattle; Joseph David and Patricia Shipley of
Charlottesville, Va.; Kirk Jr. and Earleen David, of Lexington, Ky.; and
Maureen David and Bruce Clay, of Huntington; and one grandson, Kirk David
III, of Lexington, Ky. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions to the Pallotti Fund of the St. Mary's Medical Center
Foundation or to Hospice of Huntington. Visitation hours will be from 5 to 7
p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, and a funeral mass
will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11,
with burial to follow at Woodmere Cemetery.
