Elizabeth Smith Holley
(July 19, 1923 - February 2, 2016)
Elizabeth S. “Betty” Holley, 92, of
Nashville, TN, formerly of Huntington, WV, died peacefully on February 2,
2016 with loving family by her side. Mrs. Holley was preceded in death by
her husband, George Hayward Holley; parents, Walter Francis and Mary Maude
Smith; and brother, Walter F. Smith, Jr. She is survived by daughters and
sons-in-law Frances and John Lynch of Nashville, TN, Mary Jane and Mark
Valerio of Marysville, OH, and Elizabeth and Scott Guthrie of Cary, NC;
grandchildren Holley Lynch, Matthew Valerio and his wife Lauren, Mitchell
Valerio and his wife Rachel, Brian Guthrie, and Meredith Guthrie; and
great-grandchildren Gwen and Graham Valerio. Mrs. Holley was born in
Huntington, WV in 1923. She graduated from Barboursville High School and
received her bachelor’s degree from Marshall University. She taught math at
Kingston (WV) High School where she met her future husband. A long-time
member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Huntington, she was also active in the
Cabell County 4-H program and was a WV 4-H All Star. In addition, she was a
Girl Scout leader and volunteered for many years with Faith in Action River
Cities. Visitation will be held 12:00-1:00 pm Saturday, February 13, 2016 at
Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary with the funeral service immediately afterwards
at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park.
