Betty Patricia Karnes
(August 1, 1934 - July 6, 2017)



BETTY PATRICIA KARNES, 82, of Huntington, W.V., passed away peacefully on Thursday July 6th, 2017, at the home of her daughter in Rock Hill, S.C.  Betty was born on August 1, 1934 to the late Edward P. and Marguerite Hysell Tierney of Huntington.  She was a life long devoted member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church.  She attended 12 years of school at Saint Joseph Catholic school where she was a cheerleader and member of the 1953 graduating class.  Betty, who since 14 worked at and later owned a family business, The Lenahan Cigar Stand (located in the Huntington Arcade Building) will be remembered for her wonderful milkshakes, coffee and fountain drinks.  She was an active member in the Lambda Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for many years.  For 52 years she was a very loving wife to Maynard Robert “Bob” Karnes who preceded her in death.  She was also preceded by her parents as well as her sister Marguerite Lockhart, brothers Edward, Michael and Richard Tierney and her aunt Ceal Huddleston.  After her love of God and her faith Betty found her greatest joy in being a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother.  She is survived by her four children, their spouses and 11 grandchildren, daughter Tammy (Alan) Stowasser children Alexandra (Gordan) Buckingham and Victoria Stowasser of Rock Hill, S.C.; son James (Melinda) children Ethan, Matthew and Taylor Karnes of Huntington; daughter Julie (Jeffrey) children Kathryn, Christopher and Benjamin Booth of Rock Hill, S.C.; son Chuck (Elizabeth) children Margaret, Patrick and Andrew Karnes of Huntington. Her services will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on Monday July 10th by Very Rev. Dean G. Borgmeyer, Celebrant.  A rosary will be held at 11:30 a.m. followed by a visitation at 12 p.m. and Funeral Mass at 1 p.m.   Interment will follow in Woodmere Memorial Parkial Park.  Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is handling the arrangement. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made in her memory to Saint Joseph Catholic Church.  Betty will be remembered for her selfless giving, joy filled spirit and smiling kindness.
