Obituary

Virginia Mae Nelson
(May 26, 1929 - July 1, 2017)



Virginia Stephenson Nelson passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017.  “Ginny” was born in New Kensington, PA and traveled extensively with her parents, James and Laura Stephenson while Jim worked for Hyland Patterson Construction.  For her junior and senior year of high school, Ginny opted to return to the family farm in Chesapeake, OH to graduate with her friends and classmates. Shortly after graduation she met and married Gordon Nelson whom she was happily married to for 39 years until his death in 1987. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Nelson, her parents, James and Laura Stephenson, and her brothers Don Stephenson, and Howard Huff. She is survived by her three children, Debbie (Bernard) McGinnis, Jim (Christina) Nelson and Angie (Mike) Durbin.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Bundy (Jodi) McGinnis, John (Pam) McGinnis, Andy (Blaine) McGinnis, Ben (Aly) McGinnis, Jake Durbin and Sam Durbin. She adored her 10 great grandchildren. Ginny will forever be remembered for her abiding faith and her incredible sense of humor.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a devout Christian who served on the prayer chain of the Pinellas Park FL United Methodist Church for many, many years.  She also had a special and wonderful relationship with her niece and her husband, Donna and Butch Schrader.  Ginny will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  Ginny's family would like to acknowledge the care and love that she received in the Homestead Unit at Heritage Center. A special thank you to Robin, Sandy, Paula, John, Angie, Danielle, Brenda, Toni, Hope, Vicky, Cindy, Lisa and Dr. White. Funeral services will be held by the Rev. Teresa Deane 12 noon on Saturday July 8, 2017 at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time.  Interment will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Virginia Nelson to the Homestead Unit at Heritage Center to the attention of Robin Thompson.
