      Obituary
    Delores Nichols(July 13, 1944 - January 11, 2019)

 DELORES KAY NICHOLS,
loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She graced heaven on
Friday, Jan. 11, 2019. She departed peacefully in her sleep at home with her
family by her side. Delores was born July 13, 1944, to Evelyn Spears, who
preceded her in death. Also preceding her were her daughters Tony Michelle
and Lisa Dell; her brothers Wayne Stanley, Robert Hughes, Ricky Hughes and
brother-in-law Charlie Lewis. Survivors include her husband of 57 years,
Melvin Ray Nichols; her son Melvin Ray Nichols Jr., and her daughters Tina
Nichols Spaulding and Bonita Nichols Adkins (Charles). Her surviving
grandchildren are Brandi Elizabeth Adkins, Katherine Sophia Spaulding, Anna
Kay Adkins, Charles Isaac Adkins and Grace Adkins; and great-grandchild Liam
Adkins. Her surviving sister, Mary Jane McHanan. She had many cousins,
nieces and nephews as well; all of whom will be mourning her loss greatly,
as well as celebrating and cherishing the light she brought everyone’s life.
Her unbelievable will, absolute determination and fierce tenacity excelled
her through her achievements, overcoming great obstacles and never
refraining from challenges. She first received her Associate’s degree in
Nursing, then her BSN from Marshall University. After receiving these, she
completed her CRNA from CAMC and followed with attaining her Master’s in
Nursing Administration at Bellarmine. She had the mind of a genius, to say
the least, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. She tremendously impacted
everyone in her life, especially the young nurses during her time as a
Nursing Instructor at ACC. She completed her career as a nurse as vice
president of Nursing at King’s Daughters. Nursing was her career, but she
also had a passionate artistic side. Should could draw, paint and decorate,
and create anything she set her brilliant mind to; she honestly made the
world a better place. One of her greatest legacies, her tender heart, had an
abundance of love. She was wholly and fiercely devoted to her family, and
would do anything for anybody; undoubtedly, many people owe a great deal to
Delores. Her priorities were her family, those she held dear, and providing
of any kind. The presence she held in this world will not be forgotten
easily or quickly, forever remaining in those she left behind. The Funeral
Mass will be provided by St. Joseph Catholic Church at noon Wednesday,
January 16; family will receive visitors one hour prior to services. The
graveside service will be held privately for the immediate family.
