George William Brownfield
(November 1, 1921 - December 26, 2010)



George William Brownfield, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, December 26th, 2010 at the Imogene Dolen Hospice House of Huntington. Mr. Brownfield was born November 1st, 1921 in West Lafayette, Ohio to Maude Hall and Roy Brownfield. He is survived by his sweetheart of 68 years, Dorothy Kooken Brownfield. He graduated from Vinson High School in 1940 and later served in the Army Air corps during WWII. After the war, he became an assistant manager for Montgomery Ward. He retired from Butler Furniture Company after 32 years of service. He loved selling fine furniture and made many friends while doing so.

Mr. Brownfield was a devout Christian having been saved and baptized at Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church at age 12. After marrying, he became an active member of 7th Ave. Baptist Church where he faithfully served for 68 years as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, and Chairman of the Building Committee. He especially loved the time spent working with his college age class, the Christian Youth Class.

Mr. Brownfield was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Glenn Sullivan; brother and sister-in-law, Wilfred and Marjorie Brownfield; a son-in-law, Charles R. Campbell; his sisters-in-law and husbands, Anna Marie and Harold Hinerman and Inez and Stanley Clary and two nephews, James Clary and Ralph May. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 Years, Dorothy Kooken Brownfield; a wonderful son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ronald L. Brownfield and Janie Chambers Brownfield; a devoted daughter who took such special care of him, Suzanne K. Campbell; 6 grand children, Michael Ian Campbell (Debi), Laura Campbell Wagner (Josh), Jared Brownfield (Brittany), Aaron, Caleb and Annie Brownfield; 6 great-grand children, Laurel, Jacob, Landon, Maura and Parker Campbell and Jonas Wagner; a special daughter Shelby Williams (Scott) ;nephews Barry Brownfield (Shiela), Bill Brownfield (Mary); nieces Glynette Wilson (Joe), Judy May, Jennifer Plyburn (Rev. Jim), Janet Cowen, Sally Cook (Don) and several great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brownfield loved sports and faithfully supported the Herd, attending both home and away games and tournaments. In recent years he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer.. He was blessed to have been in the care of Hospice and many special people who assisted him and his loved ones. A special thanks to Sherri Harris and Cynthia Finley, caregivers who became like family.

Visitation will be at Reger Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 28tth from 6-8. Funeral Services will be held at 7th Ave. Baptist Church at 1:00 on Wed. Dec. 29th with Pastor Bob Withers and Rev. Keith Creasy officiating. Burial at Spring Hill Cemetery will follow. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephew Scott Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be a special friend Bruce Kauff and members of the former Christian Youth class. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to 7th Ave. Baptist Church or Hospice of Huntington.
