| Obituary
     SISTER BARBARA ANN JAKSCHIK, SAC, a 
    member of the Pallottine Missionary Sisters, died on November 1, 2016 after 
    a long illness at St. Mary's Convent Infirmary in Huntington, WV at the age 
    of 85. She was born to Vincenz and Marian Krzanowski Jakschik in Lipine, 
    Poland on September 12, 1931 the third of four daughters. She is survived by 
    two sisters Maria Jakschik of Maintal-Doernigheim, Germany and Ann Albano of 
    Monza, Italy and two neices in Munich Germany. In addition to her parents, 
    Sister was preceded in death by her siser, Helen von Munchhofen. Sr. Barbara 
    entered the Pallottine Missionary Sisters on September 4, 1953 in Limburg, 
    Lahn, Germany. She made her first profession on August 15, 1956 in Limburg. 
    After profession she worked in a hospital in Hadamar, Germany before being 
    transferred to the United States in November, 1958. She obtained her BS in 
    Pharmacy in 1963 and her MS in Hospital Pharmacy in 1966 both from Duquesne 
    University in Pittsubrgh, PA. She was Director of St. Mary’s Hospital 
    Pharmacy in Huntington from 1966-1970 when she went to St. Louis, MO where 
    she obtained her PhD in Pharmocology from Washington University in 1974. She 
    remained at Washington Universtity as a Post-Doctoral student and then as an 
    Associate Professor at the School of Medicine where she both taught and did 
    pharmacological research until 1992. Then she took a sabbitcal year in 
    Silver Springs, MD where she obtained a certificate in Theological Studies 
    at the Washington Theological Union. After completing her studies she 
    retutned to St. Mary’s Medical Center where she served as Director of 
    Mission Integration from 1993-98. During her time there she initiated a 
    Mission oriented Leadership Development Program for the Management staff and 
    assisted in creation of a pictorial history of St. Mary’s Medical Center and 
    of the Pallottine Missionary Sisters and their international presence in the 
    World, which is still on display at the Medical Center. In 1998, during the 
    General Chapter of the Pallottine Missionary Sisters in Rome, Italy, she was 
    elected to the General Council of the Congregation. In that capacity she 
    traveled to many of the Pallottine Missions throughtout the world. She 
    remained in that position unitl in 2004 when she returned to the United 
    States. She then served on the Provincial Council, the Board of Pallottine 
    Health Services and as Director of On-Going Formation for the Province until 
    she was forced to retire due to ill health in 2011.
