in death by his wife of 60 years, Frances Ray Davis; three brothers, Walter,

daughter-in-law, Rebekah Davis; and a great granddaughter, Hanna Effingham.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald A. and Paula Davis; and
a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Raleigh Sowder; six granddaughters and
their husbands, Melissa and William Effingham, Melinda and Charles Bays,
Michelle and Eric Adkins, Natalie and Bill Lycans, Julie and Brad Nelson,
and Chrissy and Bob Theuring; eight great grandchildren, Willie, Cody, and
Donald “D.J” Bays, Abigail Effingham, Morgan Adkins, Brooke and Logan Perry,
and Garrett Nelson; and seven great great grandchildren; two brothers John
(June) Davis of Kenova, WV, James E. Davis of Apple Grove, WV; and a sister

served during WWII in Okinawa, Japan as an automatic weapons and
anti-aircraft artillery NCO. He was awarded the Victory Medal, and the
American Theater: Asiatic-Pacific Theater Good Conduct Medal. Until the
final days of his life he exemplified the Army attitude of a fine soldier-
God, Country, and Family. He worked at Houdaille Industries until the
closing of the plant and finished his working career at Ashland Oil
Refinery. He was a member of the Buffalo Valley Baptist Church. He loved the
Lord and at any given time could burst into song singing His praises. He was
a member of the Masonic Lodge- Buena Vista #60 and was a charter member of
the O.E.S. White’s Creek #159. The family would like to acknowledge and
thank River’s Bend Health Care staff for their excellent care of our father
but more for their compassion, dedication, love, and respect to him and his
family. A special “thank you” to Hospice for aiding in the comfort care
during his final days. Also to the Huntington VA Medical Center from
Audiology Department, Visual Program, Pharmacy, ER, to the Green Team
Doctors and Staff for providing his health care needs during the last
several years. There aren’t enough words to properly thank the above
mentioned people. He was the son of a farmer and his fondest hobby was
farming. He always grew a garden that produced enough food to feed several
families. Our father was a man who was very passionate about the things he
believed. In lieu of flowers we ask that, if you desire, you may honor one
of his passions – feeding the hungry.
