ObituaryHelen Ruth Elkins
Helen Ruth Elkins, 75, of Ona, WV died on September 14 in her home with family at her side. A daughter of the late Carl and Winona Turley Rimmer, who taught her to love God, family, and hard work, Helen was born and lived her entire life at Howell's Mill on land adjacent to the Rimmer Homeplace. She was a quiet model of faith and was a member of Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years. Helen worked for 35 years alongside her husband and later her son at Elkins Insurance Agency in Milton. Whether it was doing housework, yard work, cooking, or projects for family members, she was happiest when working and was proud to be able to be strong and busy up until the final five days of her life. Helen Ruth was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her love and guidance will be missed daily by those who mourn her passing. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Don; sister, Jane Nickerson (John); three children, Kathy Jackson (Robert), Kevin Elkins (Karen), and Karen Holley; four grandchildren, Joshua Jackson (Crissy), Jessica Cooke (Bob), Katelyn and Hannah Holley; seven great-grandchildren; several cousins and neighbors who were as close as family including her best friend of 70 years, Patty Dailey. The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Damien Silbermins, the nursing staff at HIMG Oncology, and Hospice of Huntington employees, Bobby Moore and Christy Davis for their care and kindness. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Pastor Paul Meadows. Burial will follow in the Rimmer Cemetery, Ona.
