ObituaryJane Maralee Cogar
Jane Maralee Cogar, 87, of Milton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, July 25th, 2015. She was born March 31, 1928, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Wm. Hobert Gorrell and Blanche Mills Gorrell. Maralee graduated from Ravenswood High School, where she was a majorette and a member of the Thespians. Upon moving to Huntington, WV, she attended Huntington Junior College of Business, and worked for the Sylvania Electric Products Co. She then met and married her husband of nearly 50 years, the late Tom A. “T.A.” Cogar, CPA. She was a stay at home mother who dedicated her life to raising her four children. In later years, she worked at Olan Mills portrait studio, then retired from Lazarus Portrait Studio at the Huntington Mall, where she received accolades for top sales performance in the region. Loved by those who knew her, she could brighten a room with her friendly demeanor and cheerful personality. Maralee was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who returned that love to her family, friends and church. She was a long-time member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Ona, WV. Maralee had many friends and a variety of interests. As a hobby, she worked alongside her husband creating miniature furniture, and also helping him in his accounting office. She enjoyed fashion & trends, Marshall sports, and had a very lucky streak in March Madness college basketball pools. She enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life. In addition to her husband, Maralee was preceded in death by an infant son, Jamie J. Cogar, and in Dec. 2014, a son, Lindsay Joel Cogar; one brother, William H. Gorrell Jr.; and one sister, Phyllis E. Gentry. She is survived by her big sis, Ruth M. Rhodes of Ravenswood, WV; two sons, T. Allen Cogar II and wife Sabra of Pompano Beach, FL; Gregory D. Cogar and fiancé Carmen of Scott Depot, WV; one daughter, Suzanne Cogar of Milton; daughter-in-law Cindy A. Cogar of Huntington; two grandsons, Jacob Cogar of Milton, Tommy Thompson and fiancé Marla of Lexington, KY; great-granddaughters Maggie and Madeline of Lexington, and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Bethesda United Methodist Church by Rev. Jeffrey C. Kanode. Entombment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church, 118 Bethesda Dr., Ona, WV 25545.
