Delano Emery Mounts
(1936 - August 31, 2016)


Delano Emery Mounts, 80, of Milton, WV, formerly of Williamson, WV, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on August 31, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House. Emery was a retired Assistant Fire Chief of the Williamson Fire Department, serving for 31 years. He was also retired from the Norfolk Southern Railway. He was an extremely gifted athlete in both baseball and basketball at Williamson High School, and went on to sign a professional baseball contract with the Detroit Tigers Major League Baseball Club upon graduation from high school. He was a member of the Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church and the Williamson High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was the youngest of nine siblings, seven of whom preceded him in death. Emery was an avid fisherman, having spent time teaching all of his grandchildren the joy of fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Lee. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael. Left behind with their wonderful memories are two children, Jerry (Yvonne) Mounts of Myrtle Beach SC, and Dixie (Kenny) Burner of Huntington, WV. He was Papaw to Michael and Max Mounts and Pee Paw to Greg, Kyle and Lindsey Burner. He also leaves behind one brother Ivan (Betty) of Virginia. Services will be held Friday, September 2 at Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church, Ona, WV beginning with a Celebration of Life at 10:00 am, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, WV. Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, WV is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emogene Dolin Hospice House in Huntington, WV.
