James "Jim" Monroe Lewis
(February 5, 1940 - December 30, 2016)



JAMES (JIM) MONROE LEWIS, age 76, joined the presence of our Lord on December 30, 2016, from his home in Milton. He was born on February 5, 1940, the son of Paul Monroe and Clova (Spears) Lewis. He was preceded in death by his son, James Anthony (Tony) Lewis. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Jean (Ketchum) Lewis, his daughter, Felicia (Allan) Hathaway, his two grandchildren, Emily and Jamison Hathaway, his brother, Cecil (Opal) Lewis, and sister, Gaye (Homer) Alford. While in high school, he worked a paper route, in a bottling company and at A to Z Grocery Store. After graduating from Hurricane High School, he then began his career as a surveyor with Michael Baker Surveyors. He went on to work as a resident survey engineer for C&O Railroad/CSX where he would later retire. He loved being outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt and to work outside. He enjoyed taking trips to Disney World and Anna Maria Island, Florida, with his family, especially his grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Dilip Nair, Cabell Home Health, two special nurses, Jennifer Rollins and Taylor Adkins, his caregivers, Barbara Ragland and her daughter Bobbi Jo, and our extended family and host of friends. Pallbearers will be David Cornell, Doug Cremeans, Ryan Keaton, Troy Hinkle, Scott Peters, David Chittum, Ben Wallace and Sean Peters. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2017, at Wallace Funeral Home in Milton. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017, at the funeral home. Services will be officiated by Dr. Stan Maynard, Reverend John Hathaway and Pastor Troy Nicely. Burial will follow at Forest Memorial Park.
