Obituary

Raphael Kincaid
(July 5, 1939 - February 13, 2014)

RAPHAEL KINCAID also known as “Ray” was born in Amonata, Virginia on July 5, 1939. He was the third child of Lillian and Thomas W. Kincaid, Sr. His parents and one brother preceded him in death. Ray accepted Christ at an early age. When attending church, along with his brothers and sister, Ray participated in Sunday School and enjoyed singing in the choir. He received his education in the War, WV Public School System, graduating from Excelsior High School in 1957. Ray Enlisted in the United States Army in August 1957, where he trained to parachute from an airplane. After receiving an honorable discharge from the armed forces, Ray moved to Brooklyn, NY. He was married to Yvonne Marshall of Washington, NC and to his union one lovely daughter was born, Cheryl Green. Cheryl was Ray’s pride and joy. After working on several different jobs in NY, Ray became employed with the New York Telephone Company. He loved his job as an installation Technician, and he worked 24 years before missing a day from work. Wanting a quiet environment for his daughter, Ray transferred his employment, moving his family to Detroit, MI. He retired from AT&T Telephone Company after 26 years of service. After his retirement, Ray chose to live a simpler life. He decided to move closer to his brother, Thomas W. Kincaid, Jr. in Huntington, WV where he would live out the remainder of his life. While in Huntington, Ray was active in many things such as the Habitat for Humanity projects, the community garden, and was helpful to anyone in the community that needed a hand. While sitting on his porch, he made numerous friends. Especially with John, Tyrone and Percy, whom became more like his brothers. Ray enjoyed the company of everyone that walked by his house and also provided a safe refuge while watching over the community. Ray loved life and he loved people of all ages. His granddaughter’s thought he was the coolest person they’d ever met. He loved cooking pork ribs on the grill, fishing, watching and attending sport events and entertaining his friends and neighbors. Ray leaves to cherish his life and legacy: one loving daughter, Cheryl Green of St. Clair Shores, MI; one daughter, Ruby Hancock, and one son, Quincy Pope; one brother Thomas W. Kincaid, Jr. of Huntington, WV; one sister, Cleo Kincaid of Cincinnati, OH; two granddaughters, Phalyn E. Green of Chandler, AZ and Nikka C. Green of Atlanta, GA; three nieces, Angie Kincaid of Richmond, VA who was like a daughter, Quozette Griffey (Robert) of Detroit, MI, and Charzette Torrence of New York, NY; one nephew, Michael T. Lee of Columbus, OH; a special cousin, Houston Hudson; two special friends, Thomas Lee of Cincinnati, OH and Christopher Farrar of Detroit, MI, and a host of other relatives and friends. I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. (St. John 11:25-26 KJV)
