Loretta Reed Hagler
(October 18, 1941 - March 12, 2014)



Daughter of the late Frank Reed Sr. and Frances Reed.  She is survived by her husband, Freddie Lee Hagler of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Gary Howard of Gahanna, OH; son and daughter in law, Cornell and Herminia Hagler of North Las Vegas, NV;  and Bernadette Hagler of Clayton, NC; three grandchildren, SSgt Jarred Howard of Clovis, NM; Candace Hagler of North Las Vegas, NV; Justin Howard of Lancaster, CA; six sisters;  Shirley Johnson and Joanne Reed of Huntington; Dorothy Gaines of Cincinnati, OH; Peggy Reed and Yvonne Flood of Jacksonville, NC; Donna Botts of Harrisburg, VA ; Jacqueline Reed of Detroit, MI. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Reed Jr. and Irvin Reed. She devoted her time and energies to many community and organizations in Huntington. Member of Our Lady of Fatima, Huntington. Served on Huntington Human Relations Commission, Secretary for Cabell County Community Services Organization, Secretary for Huntington Chapter of NAACP, lifetime member and was a member of NAACP Million Dollar Club. A lifetime member, she served for several terms as President of the Huntington Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc.  Served the national organization as Recording Secretary and was a member of the national election committee. Board Member and Secretary for Carter G. Woodson Memorial Foundation, Committee member of Douglass/Huntington High School Black Alumni Association and member of Douglass Foundation, Member of Huntington League of Women Voters, Member of Greater Huntington Unit of Church Women United, Served as volunteer for Ronald McDonald House of the Tri State since 1989, Served as volunteer for American Red Cross Disaster Relief Team, Named “History Hero” by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History in 2011, Winner of the 2007 Focus Award of Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation, Received Community Service Award by Full Gospel Women’s Ministry. Served as a volunteer for CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) in Cabell County and Served as community journalist for Charleston Beacon Digest newspaper A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, with Father Chuck McGinnis, officiating.  Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00PM Friday March 14, 2014 at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home.
