Obituary

John Alexander McCray
(September 13, 1941 - December 10, 2016)


John Alexander McCray, 75 of Huntington, WV passed away December 10, 2016. He was born September 13, 1941 in Baltimore, MD to the union of Alexander and Emma McCray. Upon moving to Huntington, he received his formal education in the Cabell County Public Schools. While attending school, he was a stellar athlete excelling in track. After graduation from Huntington High School, John attended the Huntington Junior College of Business and eventually joined the United States Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, John returned to Huntington where he worked at Houdaille Industries, Mack and Dave’s and the Huntington Junior College of Business. In later years, Brother McCray enrolled in a technical college in Institute, WV where he pursued certification in graphic design and computer technology. He was a certified welder as well and his hobbies included art, photography and intense study of the Bible. Brother McCray was a valued member of Full Gospel Assembly. He was heavily engaged in ministry of the church. At sundry times, he served on the Usher Board, Media Ministry, Power of Praise Choir, Transportation Ministry and Drama Guild. John was preceded in death by both parents and two sisters, Delores Conwell and Deborah Jamison. He is survived by one brother, Edward Jackson (Rosa) of Huntington; nieces, Valerie Hughes (Charles) of Beckley, WV and Robin Malbon (Liberace); nephew, Charles Conwell, Jr. of Huntington; and many cousins and church family members. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Full Gospel Assembly with Bishop Samuel R. Moore officiating. Family will welcome friends one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
