Obituary

GARRY LYLE GRASS, caring husband to Marietta F. Grass of Milton, W.Va., was promoted to his Heavenly home Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at his residence. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Chuck Elkins and the Rev. Mark Finley officiating. Burial will follow in Balls Gap Cemetery. He was born July 26, 1935, in Lincoln County, West Virginia, a son of the late Lee Roy and Pansy Grass. In addition to Marietta, he was a loving father to son, Roy Todd (Carolyn) Grass of Barboursville; daughter, Karrie Beth (Jim) Fankhanel of Springboro, Ohio, and son, Troy Lyle (Misty) Grass of Barboursville; special grandfather to Kyle Thomas, Daniel Colton, Bodie Lyle and Tye Robert Grass; Erin Beth and Emily Brooke Fankhanel. He was a close twin to Larry Dial (Frances) Grass and sisters, Helen Erwin and Opal Burton. Garry was an avid reader and faithful servant to God. He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. He also attended Balls Gap Baptist Church. Garry retired from General Motors Acceptance Corporation to compassionately serve humanity from 1971-76 at the Charleston Union Mission. With his knowledge of accounting, God lead him to help relocate the new mission and build the chapel and elderly people's home located on South Park road in Charleston, W.Va. He continued his work for the Lord during his employment as a Sales Representative with Ranson Stone and Marble and Barboursville Block Company. A special thank-you to Hospice caregivers, Brenda, Hope, Roma, Crystal, Natalie and John Schuman, as well as faithful friends, Arb, Claire, Jane and a host of wonderful friends and neighbors who were so supportive during his fight with cancer. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2005, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Charleston Union Mission, P.O. Box 112, Charleston, WV 25321 or Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464; Huntington, WV 25709.
