Ruth Jean Eddy
(April 9, 1921 - May 3, 2016)



Ruth Jean Eddy, 95, of Huntington, W.Va. passed away, Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the Madison Park Assisted Living, Huntington, W.Va. She was born April, 9, 1921 in Huntington, W.Va. a daughter of the late, Pearl and Ross Eddy. Ruth graduated from Huntington High School and the Wiseman  School of Business where she achieved a typing level of an astounding  200 words a minute.  During World War II, she joined the Women’s Army Corp (WAC)  where she flew all over the world taking notes from several prominent generals such as Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton and Field Marshall Montgomery. She also served in the Army’s JAG legal division in several classified positions.  She left the service after the war but was called back into the Army during Vietnam Conflict as an accuracy surveyor for the federal budget. She proudly served her country for seventeen years before returning from military service. She resided in San Francisco, California for forty years and worked for the president of the Pacific Railroad. She moved back to Huntington and was a member of the New Baptist Church. Ruth had traveled the world but always considered Huntington to be her home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Henley and two brothers, Miles Eddy and Jim Eddy. She is survived by three brothers, Jack Eddy, Carlton Eddy and Larry (Donna) Eddy and a very special cousin, Phyllis Gould whom she considered a sister as well as several nieces and nephews who could adored he. Ruth was a very gracious and kind lady. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to the wonderful and compassionate staff at Madison Park Assisted Living for their excellent care and kindness to Ruth and provided her comfortable and dignified end of life passage. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 13, 2016 at New Baptist Church, Huntington, W.Va. with Pastor Trent Eastman officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time on Friday at the church. The family requests that memorial donations be made in Ruth’s honor to the Cabell-Wayne Animal Shelter, 1901 James River Road, Huntington, W.Va. 25701. Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va. is caring for the family.
