Herbert Earl Thompson
(October 9, 1931 - May 2, 2016)



Herbert Earl Thompson, 84, of Barboursville, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 2, 2016 surrounded by his treasured family. He was born October 9, 1931 in Logan County, WV. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Janie Thompson; brothers, James Thompson, and Charles Ray Thompson; three sisters Geraldine Brown, Gladys Gabbard, and Bonnie Smith. Surviving family members include: his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Goff Thompson; sons, Scott Thompson and wife Alice, of Ashland, KY; Deron Thompson and wife Tara, of Huntington, WV; daughters Lora White and husband Reverend Russell White of Stephenville, TX, and Marybeth Logsdon and husband Mike of Bridgeport, WV; sisters Jewel Donahoe and husband Dale of Cattletsburg, KY; Glenna Faye Cline of Maple Park, Illinois; in-laws, Evelyn Thompson of Cleveland, TN, Eula Thompson of Glen Lynn, WV, Charlotte Goff of King, NC, Mike Goff and wife Gerry of West Frankfort, Illinois, and Rebecca Riley and husband Kerry of King, NC; grandchildren: Elizabeth White Hoots and husband Michael, Jennifer Thompson, Logan White, Lauren Logsdon, Michael Logsdon II, Sara Logsdon, William Thompson, Lily Thompson; and great-grandchildren; Hunter and Hudson Hoots, Jack Thompson, Abby Jane White, and multiple nieces and nephews. Herb began his working career with Island Creek Stores in Logan, WV. He later worked in the trucking industry in Cleveland, Ohio for 6 years. Herb retired in 1989 from Kroger Warehouse in Kanawha City, WV and again after 17 years of service from the Cabell County School System. Herb felt that he was rich beyond measure because of his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, his treasured family, and his numerous friends. Herb gave so much of himself to so many people. His final wishes were for his friends and family to not grieve, but to know that he is forever rejoicing with the Lord in his Heavenly Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 o’clock noon on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. David Lemming officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park, Milton, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va.
