Thomas Roger LeGrand, 68, of Lesage, WV, left this earthly world on January 2018 following over a year- long courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was born September 24, 1949, in Huntington, WV, the son of the late Donald Lee and Julietta Saunders LeGrand. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hershel and Ollie White LeGrand, maternal grandparents, Frank and Gestel Davis Saunders, sister and brother-in-law Sandra Sue and Alfred Morris, brother-in-law Jack Buzzard, nephew Anthony Clark and Kelly Ammons, and father-in-law Stanley Chapman. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Karen Chapman LeGrand, son Thomas Andrew “Andy” LeGrand (Alyson), grandsons Austin Cole Stevens and Zander Morgan LeGrand. Sister Anna Buzzard (Sam) brother Ronald LeGrand (Sharon). Mother-in-law Mona Spurlock Chapman, sister-in-law Donna Chapman Stephens (Mike). Step-father Roosevelt Holley. An Uncle Vandel (Arlene) Noble. Nieces and nephews, Connie Adams, Terri Ammons, Alfred Morris, Lisa Morris, Annette Morris, Traci Buzzard, Jamie Bowling, Keri LeGrand, Brian and Kevin Perry. Roger graduated from Barboursville High School in 1969. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy with four years active duty and eight years of Naval Reserve service. He was honorably discharged with the rank of GMG3. Upon discharge from the Navy, he was employed at Special Metals with over thirty years of service where he was a crane operator and served on the Emergency Response Team before retiring in December 2011. He proudly served as a member of the Ohio River Road Volunteer Fire Department for over 34 years attaining the rank of Assistant Chief. Roger was an avid hunter and fisherman. After retirement, he was proud to be a member of The Herd Racing Team, and was a pilot of the 75 SkeeterPaste racing boat. The family will receive friends from 5-8PM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Henson and Kitchen Mortuary, 6357 East Pea Ridge Rd. Barboursville. Funeral service will be conducted, Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Henson and Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville at 12:00 noon with Rev. Jerry Ryder officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Memorial Park, Milton, WV, with Military honors conducted by American Legion Post #139 Milton and the U.S. Navy. Pallbearers will be members of the Ohio River Road Volunteer Fire Department.
