Mrs. Doris Curtis Eaton
(February 27, 1911 - January 10, 2012)



Doris Curtis Eaton, 100, of Huntington, West Virginia, widow of former Marshall University engineering professor Stanley B. Eaton, died Tuesday, January 10,2012 at the Woodland's Retirement Community where she was a resident. Mrs. Eaton is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Tony Williams of Huntington; and one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley Boyd and Daphne Eaton of Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived also by six grandchildren and spouses, Catherine and Jim Clinger of Arlington, Virginia; Stanley Boyd III and Amy Eaton of Glouster, Massachusetts; Deborah and Robert Johnson of Rockville, Maryland; Pamela and Mazi Arya of Cincinnati, Ohio; Charles and Jenny Eaton of Atlanta, Georgia; and Elizabeth and Larik Woronzoff of St. Paul, Minnesota. She had twelve great-grandchildren; Charlotte and Jane Clinger, Stanley and Arabella Eaton, Mitchell and Andrew Johnson, Thomas and Grace Arya, Maxwell and Anne Eaton, and Sophia and Michael Woronzoff. She leaves also several nieces and nephews and many friends. Mrs. Eaton was born February 27, 1911 in Winterport, Maine. She was the third of four sisters. She is survived by her youngest sister, Shirley Teas of San Diego, California. Mrs. Eaton was a retired Cabell County elementary school teacher. She was a 1927 high school graduate and a 1931 graduate of the University of Maine, where she was an active member of Phi Mu sorority. Prior to moving to West Virginia she was employed as a social worker in Maine and taught elementary school in Virginia. She was a faithful long time member the Johnson Memorial Methodist church, a founding member of the Marshall University chapter of Phi Mu, and an active member of the Marshall University Faculty Wives club. Mrs. Eaton was an avid world traveler, camper, bird watcher, square dancer, bridge player, supporter of Marshall University theater, and fan of Marshall University athletics. She is best remembered as a loving, caring and involved mother and grandmother. The family wishes to express special thanks to the kind nurturing staff of the Woodland's Retirement Community and especially to the staff on third floor east. A summer gravesite memorial service will be conducted for family in Belfast, Maine. In lieu of gifts or flowers contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice.
