Bruce L. Stout
(January 27, 1957 - January 28, 2012)



Bruce L. Stout, 55, of Barboursville, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at home. Bruce was born January 27, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Max R. and Jeanne E. Davis Stout. After graduating from The Ohio State University College of Law, Bruce joined Huddleston Bolen LLP in 1982, and became a partner in the firm in 1988. He was well known as one of the leading trust and estate lawyers in West Virginia, being named one of the top 10 lawyers in West Virginia in 2011 by Super Lawyers magazine and Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in 2010. Bruce had been listed in the publication Best Lawyers since 1999. He was very active in the legal profession. Bruce was a member and past president of the Huntington Estate Planning Council, member and former chairman of the West Virginia State Bar Probate Committee, member of the West Virginia Law Institute on Intestate Succession, and a fellow and former State Chairman of the American College of Trust and Estate Council. Bruce was also a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Committee of the American Bar Association. Bruce is survived by his wife, Patricia Roma Stout; a son and daughter, Austin M. Stout of Huntington and Melissa A. Stout of Tampa, Fl; a stepson, Brandon M. Honaker of Salt Rock; a sister, Susan M. Kraus of Cleveland, Ohio and a brother, Steve H. Stout of Columbus, Ohio. For those wishing to say goodbye and share in his memorial, there will be a gathering of family and friends Friday, February 3, 2012 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary. He proudly served as an adjunct professor at the West Virginia University College of Law since 2008. He taught Estate Planning and shared his deep love of the subject with his students. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to WV University College of Law or The Ohio State University College of Law.
