George David Beldon

George David Beldon, 74, of Huntington, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at his home with his wife by his side. George was born September 21, 1939 in Paintsville, KY, the son of the late James Russell and Virginia Carolyn Beldon. Memorial services will be 2pm Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary. The family will receive friends from noon until service time. George was a 1961 graduate of Marshall University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and a 1965 graduate of West Virginia University Dental School. He was a Captain in the Army Dental Corps receiving The Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. He was an avid private pilot, earning his license at the age of 16. After 44 years of private practice he recently retired as dentist and owner of George D. Beldon, DDS Inc. He was a 2005 inductee into the Marshall University Sports Medicine Hall of Fame. During his lifetime he was a long standing and serving trustee for the Big Green Scholarship Foundation; member of the Big Green Club and Thunder club; Huntington Dental Society; WV State Dental Association; and City Club. He loved life and enjoyed flying, snow skiing, hunting, fishing, boating, scuba diving and spending time at Snowshoe and Lake Erie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother James Andrew and one nephew retired Command Sergeant Major Christopher Raines. George is survived by his wife, Caroline Myers Beldon of Huntington; two daughters and one son, Elizabeth and husband Greg Simos of Richmond, Va., Laurie and husband Greg Salyers of Glen Allen, Va., Brian Beldon of Cincinnati Ohio; three granddaughters Jordan Salyers, Cara Salyers and Eva Simos; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn B. and Charles R "Huck" Raines of Huntington; two nephews and one niece, Chad and wife Stacy Raines and step-daughter Grace, Matt Raines of Huntington, WV, and Susan Raines of Huntington, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Marshall University Big Green Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 1360, Huntington, WV 25701; Little Victories, 3589 Wire Branch Road, Ona, West Virginia; or a charity of your choice.
